Overview
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Criminal Record Check is a criminal record search performed against the RCMP’s Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC). In order for an RCMP Criminal Record Check to be successfully run, the candidate must pass an Identity Verification.
How It Works
Identity Verification
The RCMP Criminal Record Check requires that candidates pass an Identity Verification before a further criminal record search is conducted. Identity Verifications come in two forms:
Basic Identity Verification
Candidates will answer questions generated from their credit file in order to complete the Identity Verification. The candidate must have Canadian credit history in order to successfully pass the Basic Identity Verification.
Enhanced Identity Verification
If the candidate fails the Basic Identity Verification, GoodHire will instead perform an Enhanced Identity Verification. The Enhanced Identity Verification verifies the candidate’s identity using photo identification uploaded by the candidate.
RCMP Criminal Record Check
Once the candidate has successfully passed the identity verification, the RCMP Criminal Record Check can be run. Candidates will be asked to disclose any convictions on their record. The RCMP Criminal Record Check will then search the CPIC database to determine whether the candidate’s disclosed convictions match any convictions in the database.
Results
After the search has been completed, the RCMP Criminal Record Check will display one of three results:
Based solely on the name(s) and date of birth provided and the criminal record information declared by the applicant, a search of the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records did not identify any records with the name(s) and date of birth of the applicant. Positive identification that a criminal record does or does not exist at the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records can only be confirmed by fingerprint comparison.
Based solely on the name(s) and date of birth provided and the criminal record information declared by the applicant, a search of the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records could not be completed. Positive identification that a criminal record does or does not exist at the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records can only be confirmed by fingerprint comparison.

Possible Scenarios
Below is a chart of some of the possible scenarios that may occur when running an RCMP Criminal Record Check and what response the RCMP will return for each scenario. Regardless of RCMP results, GoodHire will always display convictions as they are self-disclosed by the candidate.
Scenario | RCMP Result |
---|---|
Candidate discloses no convictions and RCMP finds no convictions | No Record |
Candidate discloses convictions and RCMP finds no convictions | No Record |
Candidate discloses no convictions and RCMP finds convictions | Record May Exist |
Candidate discloses convictions and RCMP finds convictions that match | Criminal Record is Found |
Candidate discloses convictions and RCMP finds convictions, but they are not a perfect match | Record May Exist (or Criminal Record is Found if the RCMP determines the records are close enough) |
Identity Verification failed | No result |
RCMP Criminal Record Check could not be completed | No result |
Turnaround Time
Results of the RCMP check come back typically within 4 hours, but results can be returned in as few as 15 minutes if no results are found.
