All GoodHire background checks include criminal records searches. What we can report depends on FCRA, EEOC, and state-level regulations and guidelines. In general, though, criminal convictions will be reported.

GoodHire background check results don’t include arrests that didn’t result in a conviction, in accordance with the EEOC. In some states, GoodHire also can’t include convictions that happened more than seven years ago, in accordance with specific state laws.

You can check the status of any background check from your GoodHire account, using the “Candidates” icon. “Status” is one of the columns displayed.

Sometimes candidates notify employers about an incident they believe will be included on their background check, but when the results come back, that incident isn’t included in the results. This is often due to legal or regulatory restrictions. For example, under the FCRA certain types of records can’t be reported once they are more than 7 years old.

After 90 days, checks in your account will be archived. You can still view them for up to one year from the original purchase date. After one year, the results will expire and disappear from your account.

You can find results for each candidate under the “Candidates” tab of your account. Simply click on “View Report”.

Reports expire after one year because the data is considered out of date and therefore can’t be used to make hiring or other eligibility decisions.

Yes, if you need a copy of a report that has expired, contact our Support Team for assistance.

No. Your background check results are available through our secure website. Once logged in, you can print out or save results to a secure location on your hard drive.

No, we don’t have the functionality to text background check results at this time.

There could be several reasons why a record didn’t show up on a report:

• The record isn’t digitized, but the search only covered digitized records.
• The record isn’t located in the county’s central courthouse. For example, the record was in a municipal courthouse but not in the district courthouse.
• The record can’t be reported because it would violate federal, state, or local laws.
• The record violates our rules based on fair-chance hiring initiatives or other guidance from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In most cases, yes. When we find a possible record, we do additional research to confirm it belongs to the candidate and is reportable under the law. If we find additional records that weren’t part of the original scope of the search, we’ll add it to your report at no additional charge!

If you want to save results to your computer, right-click the “Download Report” option in the upper-right corner of the results. In order to comply with the law, you must delete the document from your computer when you’ve finished your evaluation.

No, federal law requires us to sort and filter the results from our court runners. The information on the report has been specifically sorted for the kind of check you ordered.

We keep results on file for seven years from their purchase date.

Under federal law, criminal convictions may be reported indefinitely. However, some states limit reporting of criminal convictions to 7 or 10 years. GoodHire will report any criminal record found, regardless of the age of the record, except where prohibited by federal or state law.
