Overview
Employment Verifications verify previous positions, including dates employed and job title. Each Employment Verification covers a single employer. Employers can add up to 5 Employment Verifications to a single background report.
How It Works
GoodHire calls the employer specified up to 5 times in order to verify employment. Although we request the employer’s phone number, we’ll only use it if we cannot find one on our own.
Keep in mind that Employment Verifications don’t:
- Verify self-employment
- Provide entire employment history
- Include salary (due to some states’ laws)
- Perform reference checks
Ordering
Employment Verifications can be purchased as part of GoodHire’s Premium Background Check Package or as an add-on to the Basic and Standard Packages. Note that the Premium Package only includes one Employment Verification. Any additional verifications will need to be included as add-ons.
Reviewing Results
The results tab for Employment Verification displays the status of the check, which information was verified, and what information was used to verify the candidate’s employment. Employers are able to easily compare the candidate’s provided details with the verification results.
Alerts
In the case of an alert, an additional panel will show up in the Employment Verification tab, showing employers what information GoodHire attempted, but was unable to verify.
Employment Verification alerts are typically triggered for the following reasons:
- The employer is unresponsive to verification request contacts.
- The employer has no written documentation to confirm employment information.
Candidate Skipped Employment Verification:
In some cases, the candidate may not be able to provide details for Employment Verification because they have not had a previous employer, or have already reported all employers separate Employer Verifications within your ordered background report. In this case, GoodHire allows candidates to skip the Employment Verification by providing comments explaining why they are skipping the check. The Employment Verification will be cancelled and Employers will receive a refund. The cancellation, as well as the candidate’s comments, will be visible to the employer in the results.
Turnaround Times & Additional Fees
Turnaround time for Employment Verification is typically 3 to 5 business days.
Our employment verification services typically charge additional fees. You can find the full list of providers and their fees in our Employment Verification Third Party Fees List.

Notes
Candidates will see an option to “skip” a verification if they don’t have an employer to add. In this case, the check is either canceled or refunded.
Typically, we will look for the employer’s number, or use the number provided if we cannot find one on our own. We will then call the employer 5 times over 5 business days.
See our Verification Protocols page for more information.
